Over the years I have had the privilege and thrill of opening many great new restaurants around the country for and with some of the most dynamic and successful restaurateurs and brands in the industry. I have even been able work on the concept & design of several in-house ideas and watch them come up out of the ground. Still, it wasn’t until I was able to open my own restaurants that I began to really understand what it was like to put everything on the line in a new venture. I started in this with my partners opening nine Quiznos Subs starting back in 1992, and subsequently was able to open several other concepts over the years. That was when I first fully experienced the thrill of putting up my own hard earned money, selecting the sites, negotiating the deals, designing, building & grand opening the business, while taking on all of the responsibility for marketing, staff development and financial success of the venture. Since that time we have opened, bought and sold numerous restaurants and business ventures, yet I will never forget the thrill and pride of ownership I always felt doing those first few deals. Over the last 20 years or so since then I have also had the the privilege of working with many of the most successful entrepreneurs and restaurateurs around both nationally and internationally. I can honestly say that my greatest memories and the thing I look forward to the most each day is developing and building on these relationships while creating great new business ventures that impact the lives of so many people all around us. Of course we are tremendously active developing HGW with people in the markets you would expect a growing restaurant company to be active in today such as Florida, Texas, New York, Georgia, Louisiana, Colorado etc.. yet just yesterday I was on the phone with a substantial investment group from China and California and we are working with a great new development team out in North Dakota. From some of the last p[laces I would have expected inquiries have been pouring in from Kentucky, South Dakota, Nebraska and the like. With 20 or so new restaurants on our agenda for 2013, this will definitely be a big year for the growth of our brand, and give us a presence in about a third of the country. The thrill of building a truly great brand never goes away, and actually gets better as the successes become bigger and bigger.
If you have never watched a restaurant be built from the ground up, maybe some of the photos below will give you a feel for just how exciting it can be.
