Hurricane Grill and Wings opening first Maryland location
Hurricane Grill and Wings will open a Cecil County location in January, the chain’s first Maryland store.
The West Palm Beach, Fla.-based chain is opening the restaurant at 801 E. Pulaski Highway in Elkton. Hurricane carries more than 30 flavors of chicken wings on its menu.
The operators, Robert Carlozzi and Chris Polizzi, left jobs in engineering to pursue the franchises, and they plan to develop two more eateries in Delaware.
David Cahn, an attorney at Whiteford Taylor & Preston, negotiated the franchise agreement and area development agreement for the restaurants. He said Carlozzi and Polizzi are the first franchisees he has worked with recently with no restaurant background who were able to get a loan to pursue restaurant development.
“What’s interesting about the deal is that neither of them are professional restaurateurs in any way,” Cahn said. “All along I’m thinking, are these guys going to be able to get financed?”
PNC Bank financed about 75 percent of the project, Cahn said, but most of the franchisors he has worked with in the past few years have taken on franchisees who self-financed.
Each Hurricane Grill restaurant requires and initial investment between $247,000 and $692,500, including a franchise fee of $30,000, according to the company’s website. Most locations are between 2,500 and 4,500 square feet on the end cap of a shopping center.
